FAQS
Many artists reach a point where their work is already strong,
but not yet positioned within a wider editorial or curatorial context.
This is often what makes the difference
between being seen… and being taken seriously.
ARTLO Magazine is a curated international publication
where selected artists are presented within a real editorial context —
not as a listing, but as part of the contemporary art conversation.
Each issue includes a limited number of artists,
carefully selected to maintain a balanced and serious publication.

FAQ
Why is there an editorial contribution fee?
ARTLO Magazine is primarily distributed free of charge to readers. The editorial contributions made by featured artists help support the production, design, curation, printing efforts, platform maintenance and wider visibility of the magazine.
This model allows collectors, galleries, curators and readers around the world to access the magazine freely, which is one of the reasons why ARTLO has grown to nearly 17,000 subscribers, in addition to many other readers who access the magazine digitally and physically outside the subscriber base.
How are artists selected?
ARTLO works through direct curatorial selection.
We contact artists individually whose work genuinely interests us editorially. If you received an email from ARTLO, it means our team specifically selected your work because we believe it could fit well within the magazine.
If we did not believe the work aligned with the publication, participation would simply not be possible regardless of payment.
How do artists appear in the magazine?
The standard format is usually a 1 or 2-page curated feature.
However, other formats may also be arranged:
4-page features
6-page features
Interview formats
Extended editorial presentations

Is ARTLO a catalogue of artists?
No.
ARTLO is conceived as a traditional art magazine combining articles, exhibition coverage, art history, curatorial content and selected artist features.
The artist section forms part of a broader editorial structure rather than functioning as a mass artist directory.
How many artists appear in each issue?
Our issues normally include between 20 and 40 selected artists.
Sometimes fewer, if we decide to create a more focused issue based around interviews or deeper editorial formats. Occasionally this number may reach around 45 depending on the structure of the issue.
But other art magazines include 100, 120 or even 150 artists per issue…
Yes, we are aware of this, but that is simply not our editorial model.
We repeat: ARTLO is not conceived as a mass artist catalogue.
The idea behind the magazine is not that artists simply pay to appear, but rather that readers feel there is an actual curatorial and editorial selection process behind each issue.
Where is the magazine physically distributed?
ARTLO is primarily a digital magazine, as today most readers access content through phones, computers and tablets.
However, we also make a significant effort regarding physical visibility and printed distribution.
For example, during the latest edition of Art Madrid — one of the most important art weeks in Spain — we personally distributed physical copies of the magazine among galleries, collectors and visitors throughout the fair.
In addition, many readers continue purchasing the magazine in physical format issue after issue.
Jessie Martin, Editor-in-Chief of ARTLO Magazine, in conversation with Banditrazos Gallery at Art Madrid 2026, where the ARTLO team travelled to distribute complimentary printed copies of the magazine among galleries, collectors and the general public — an example of the kind of physical visibility and active presence that continues to distinguish ARTLO from many purely digital art publications.
When is the next issue released?
The latest issue is always available through our website.
Generally, ARTLO publishes a new issue approximately every 2–3 months depending on the editorial calendar and production process.
If around 2–3 months have passed since the previous issue, the next edition is usually already in preparation.
How many artworks may I send?
This depends on the format selected.
As a general guideline:
2-page feature: around 5–6 artworks
4-page feature: around 7–8 artworks
Interview or extended formats: discussed individually
The editorial team makes the final image selection and layout decisions.
Who designs the pages?
All layouts are designed internally by the ARTLO editorial and design team.
Can I review my pages before publication?
Yes.
Approximately one week before public release, artists receive a private preview link containing the completed issue.
This allows time for small corrections or adjustments before final publication.
Can I use my pages for my website, portfolio or social media?
Of course.
Artists are welcome to share their pages digitally across websites, portfolios, social media and professional contacts.
As ARTLO continues growing within the world of galleries, fairs and collectors, appearing in the magazine can also contribute positively to an artist’s professional visibility.
Can I participate more than once?
Absolutely.
Artists who wish to participate again in future issues may contact us directly at:
Do you accept sculpture, photography or digital art?
Yes.
ARTLO welcomes many different artistic disciplines including painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media and digital art.
Do you feature artists from my country?
ARTLO is an international magazine and works with artists from many different countries around the world.
Can I appear on the cover?
Normally no.
ARTLO covers are usually dedicated to classical artworks or historical artistic references, reflecting the magazine’s interest in creating a dialogue between classical art and contemporary artistic practice.
Can I send my own written text?
Yes.
Artists are encouraged to submit their own biography, statement or written material together with the artworks.
What happens after reservation/payment?
Once participation is confirmed, artists receive a private upload link where they may submit:
Artwork images
Artist portrait
Biography or statement
Artwork details (title, dimensions, medium, year)
Any additional requested materials
The editorial and design process then begins internally.
What image quality do you require?
This is explained properly during the second step of the process.
Once participation is confirmed, artists receive a private upload link together with all technical instructions regarding image quality and file preparation.
Why might ARTLO take several days to reply?
Editorial timelines can sometimes be intensive.
It is completely normal within the publishing world for replies occasionally to take several days or even around one week during production periods.
There is no need to worry if a reply is not immediate.
Are calls or meetings available?
For the standard reduced 2-page feature offer, meetings and calls are generally not included, as the format is designed as a concise and accessible editorial participation option.
For more extensive collaborations such as interviews or deeper editorial formats, meetings or direct conversations may sometimes be arranged depending on availability.
What does the editorial contribution cover?
The editorial contribution helps support:
Editorial curation
Magazine design and layout
Production process
Digital publication
Physical visibility efforts
Magazine maintenance and distribution
Does the fee include a printed copy?
The special reduced 2-page feature offer does not include a complimentary printed copy.
This is because the fee has intentionally been kept very accessible compared to many international art publications.
The digital edition of the magazine is always freely accessible and may be shared by the artist across social media, websites and professional contacts.
Printed copies may also be purchased separately.
Can I pay in my own currency? For example, can I pay in pounds, dollars or another currency different from euros?
Yes.
All payments are processed securely through PayPal, so artists may pay in their own local currency (pounds, dollars, etc.) while ARTLO automatically receives the payment in euros.
Where is ARTLO based?
The ARTLO team works between London (United Kingdom) and Madrid (Spain), Europe.
Where can I see previous issues of the magazine?
You may browse previous issues of ARTLO Magazine here:
You may also read the magazine digitally through the online viewer directly on the website.
Or, if you prefer, you may directly download and read the latest issue of the magazine here.
What is the difference between a standard feature and an interview?
The standard feature format is primarily visual and editorial, focused on artworks, biography and curated presentation.
Interview formats are more text-based and allow deeper discussion regarding artistic philosophy, influences, career trajectory and conceptual background.
Can artists choose which artworks appear in the final layout?
Artists themselves submit several artworks for consideration.
However, it is the ARTLO curatorial and editorial team who ultimately selects which of those artworks will appear in the final magazine layout.
This is part of the curatorial approach that defines the magazine.
Do you guarantee sales, gallery representation or career opportunities?
No serious publication can honestly guarantee sales or representation.
However, ARTLO has increasingly become recognised within galleries, fairs and contemporary art circles, particularly through our physical presence at art fairs and our growing international readership.
For this reason, appearing in ARTLO may also function as a form of curated professional visibility. Galleries, collectors and art professionals often value the fact that the artist has been editorially selected rather than simply appearing within an open public directory.
Can I send AI-generated art?
In principle, no.
ARTLO is primarily focused on artistic practices involving direct creative authorship, craftsmanship and personal artistic development.
How long does the full process usually take?
Once payment has been made and the participation officially reserved, artists generally receive their private upload link within approximately 1–2 weeks.
The feature will then appear in the next available issue of the magazine whenever possible.
If the following issue is still more than around 4 weeks away from publication, there is usually enough time for the artist to appear in that edition.
However, if the upcoming issue is already in the final layout and production phase when all materials are received, the feature would instead appear in the following issue, which is generally released within approximately 2–3 months.
For this reason, the overall process may take anywhere between around 4 weeks and approximately 3 months depending on the editorial calendar and production stage of the magazine.
How can I reserve my place in the next issue?
If you are reading this page, it is because we have already contacted you personally by email and your work has already been selected by our editorial team for possible inclusion in ARTLO Magazine.
You may therefore directly enter here and click where it says:
“Secure your place” to reserve your feature for the upcoming issue.
In some cases, we also send special direct reservation offers by email. If that is your case, you may simply return to the email received and complete the reservation directly through the PayPal link provided there.
