Virtual Exhibition: "Textures of Existence"
Curators for this Exhibitions: Susan Wilson / Jessie S.Martin
Essay by Jessie S.Martin
"Textures of Existence" brings together a diverse collection of artistic visions that transcend the boundaries of medium, exploring the emotional, the spiritual, and the tangible. From vibrant brushstrokes to intricate paper works, this exhibition is a celebration of the rich creativity of contemporary artists from around the globe.
Amirata Winter transports us to a dreamlike world where the connection between humans and nature takes on profound significance, while Celine Chan uses the meticulous art of quilling to delve into themes of feminine strength and spirituality, drawing inspiration from mythical figures. Meanwhile, Lindsey McTavish translates the essence of landscapes into fibre compositions that evoke a sense of tranquillity and emotional depth. Leigh Witherell, with her figurative impressionist approach, invites us to connect with the raw, honest emotions of the human experience.
Mitch Lawton challenges visual perception through his three-dimensional works, which shift and transform depending on the viewer's perspective, while Matthew Morpheus employs collage to construct cultural and social narratives that question our relationship with the world around us. In contrast, the minimalist photography of Jean-Paul Soujol Benedetti pursues the purity of line and form, evoking a sense of infinity and calm.
Other artists, such as Cesar Vianna, with his vibrant explorations of the human form and colour, and Bonnie J. Smith, who transforms personal experiences into deeply emotional textile works, contribute fresh perspectives to this showcase. Their pieces encourage a deeper connection between art and the stories of humanity they represent.
This exhibition celebrates the technical and conceptual diversity of contemporary art, offering viewers a journey through the many layers of existence. Each work—whether in painting, photography, fibre, or collage—invites us to reflect on what it means to be human and on our relationship with the world we inhabit.
